James Bartholomew interviews Daniel Finkelstein about his extraordinary family history.
On his mother’s side, his family faced invasion in Holland by the Nazis and being sent to Belsen concentration camp. On his father’s side, his family faced invasion in Poland by the Soviet Union and being sent to the Gulag. Members of Daniel’s family died as a result of these invasions. But Daniel’s parents survived partly due to luck and partly to the amazing resourcefulness and courage shown by their own parents.
Daniel Finkelstein’s book, “Hitler, Stalin, Mum and Dad” is a brilliant account of the stories of the two sides of his family. This interview is just a sample of the rich human and historical value of the book.
