Holodomor Candle-holder Design Competition 2023

This is the winning entry in our competition to design a candle-holder for commemorating the Holodomor. The designer was Siri Jain Arunkumar at the Royal College of Art. We aim now to finalise the details of the design and, if possible, manufacture the candle-holder in time for next year’s commemoration.

The competition was open to all but with a special category for students at school. Here are the prize winners.

Best entry by a school student: Karam Gidda, Merchant Taylors’ School, Year 13

Runner up: Sarah Ansaf, Woodford County High School for Girls, Year 9

Runner up: Orla Toolan, King’s Priory School, Year 10

Commended: Lily Liu-Child, Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School, Year 10

Commended: Sienna Wright, Eastbourne College, Year 12

We are honoured that Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, was one of the judges.
